St. Brigid (Brigit) of Ireland

Today the Church remembers and honors St. Brigid (also Brigit) of Ireland who lived in the mid-400s and died around 523.  She is considered to be one of Ireland’s patron saints along with St. Patrick and St. Columba.

Her parents were baptized by St. Patrick.  From an early age, Brigid desired to go into the vowed religious life.  Brigid enter the religious life and took her vows before Bishop Mel; then in Kildare she set up a convent, the first for women in Ireland, and a monastery for men which became a center of learning and art and produced a copy of the Gospels, the famous Book of Kildare which is now on display in at the University in Dublin.

Let us pray:  Everliving God, we rejoice today in the fellowship of your blessed servant Brigid, and we give you thanks for her life of devoted service. Inspire us with life and light, and give us perseverance to serve you all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, world without end.  Amen.

Our own Allen Robinson is 1 of 6 candidates to become the next Bishop of the Diocese of New Jersey! Please keep Allen and all of the other candidates on your prayers.
