The appointed Gospel reading
for the daily prayer of the Church is taken from the 10th chapter of
Luke:
Now as
they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha
welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s
feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many
tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has
left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord
answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there
is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be
taken away from her.” (Lk. 10: 38-42).
There can be many distractions
in life. Sometimes we can be overly concerned about the many tasks ahead of us. We find ourselves consumed by the many things
that we think need to be accomplished. There are times when our concerns about
getting things done distract us from listening to Jesus. We can find ourselves saying, “Jesus, I’d
love to listen to you, but I’m busy right now.”
Is there anything more important than putting aside the concerns of the
day and listening to Jesus who not only has, but is, the Word of eternal
life? Take a moment and set aside the
concerns of the day. Stop and listen to
the voice of Christ. You might be surprised
to hear what He has to say to you.
Let us pray: O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd
of your people; Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us
each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit,
lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
PLEASE REMEMBER EVERYONE ON OUR
PRAYER LIST, especially those who are looking for employment, Rose Daniels,
Gladys Simon and all of those who are ill.
